Sun Protection Tips: Apply sunscreen early and repeat often, applying liberally 15 to 30 minutes before sun exposure so it can absorb into the skin, and reapply every 80 minutes per FDA recommendation. Using Sunscreen and Insect Repellent Together: It is safe to use sunscreen and insect repellent together, with sunscreen applied first and allowed 10-15 minutes to absorb into the skin before applying the insect repellent. Tick Prevention: Dress appropriately if you plan to be in a wooded or grassy area, with pants and long sleeves being best to limit skin exposure. Insect Bite Relief: For insect bites that are red or raised, applying an ice pack for 10-15 minutes 3-4 times a day and taking Benadryl for itching both provide symptomatic relief from the local insect bite reaction.
